Fertilization: All
turf areas will be fertilized four times per year, starting after spring
green-up and ending in early fall. No more than 1 to 1 ½ pounds of nitrogen
per 1,000 sq. ft. will be applied at one given time. A balanced fertilizer,
high nitrogen fertilizer, or high nitrogen slow release fertilizer will be
determined by Horticare or as requested by owner. Some of the factors
Horticare considers when determining which fertilizers to apply are thin
turf, thickness of turf, low p and k levels, and lack of irrigation.
Applications will be applied only to dry and leaf free surfaces.
Weed Control in Turf: A pre-emergent herbicide will be applied in
spring and fall, making a total of three pre-emergents throughout the year.
Horticare will determine the type and timing of application in order to
ensure the best results possible. The target
weeds, weather conditions, area, and re-seeding are some of the factors we
consider. A post-emergent herbicide will also be applied twice annually to
give at least a 90% to 95% weed control. Broadleaf and grassy weeds will be
controlled by direct applications. Some examples where herbicides may not
be used: areas where run-off into water may occur, stressed turf caused by
drought and poor fertility, the use of 2, 4, D products under the drip line
of desirable trees and shrubs, and on playgrounds. There will be an
extra charge for the treatment of Dallasgrass, Nutsedge and Virginia
Buttonweed, Ground Ivy, Knotweed, Orchard Grass, Thistle, Violet, Wild
Onion/Garlic, and Niblewill.
Disease and Pest Control in Turf: Horticare will treat disease and
pest problems in all turf areas on an as needed basis. Horticare will
determine the target pest or disease, the timing, and the appropriate
pesticide to control the problem. This service will be an extra cost
aside from the turf program.
License: Horticare is licensed by the Arkansas State Plant Board and
takes all the necessary precautions to ensure protection of people, animals,
and the environment from the use of pesticides.
