The art of landscaping greatly enriches the beauty and value of both residential and commercial property. It is an investment that should be considered from both the aesthetic and the functional viewpoints. Horticare Landscaping has an experienced and educated staff in the field of Landscape Design & Build to help you create a beautiful landscape that meets your needs, both aesthetic and functional.

There are six stages to the landscaping process here at Horticare Landscaping.

  contact  ::  discovery  ::  design services  ::  approval  ::  installation  ::  follow-up

contact::

After contacting our office, a meeting with one of our landscape consultants will be arranged at your convenience. At this initial meeting, we will introduce you to the services offered by Horticare Landscaping, and explain the landscape design/build process from start to finish.

Our consultants will also discuss with you your landscaping needs. If a project involves new or substantially changed existing landscaping, a site plan is recommended to communicate the new plan to the client and assist with the project installation. Smaller scale projects may only require an estimate.

discovery::

Our clients contact us because they are searching for someone with the proper training and experience in landscape design and installation. Our goal at Horticare Landscaping is to solve your problems, and in the process, create for you a wonderful environment in which to work and live.

The discovery phase of the landscaping process is crucial in order to determine exactly what you need and when you need it. We will be asking questions and listening to you, in order to learn what you believe is important. The more we know about your landscaping needs, the better we will be able to develop a landscape design and proposal that you are happy with and that brings real value to you.

landscape design services::

Landscape Design is a visual art. Utilizing the principles of art – repetition, variety, balance, emphasis, sequence and scale – a landscape designer creates a landscape that will perform at its best. While seeking to meet the needs and tastes of people, a professional landscape design uses a variety of materials, including stone, wood, cement and, of course, plants. The goal of every Horticare Landscaping design is to apply these principles to create a pleasing outdoor composition.

approval::

In addition to the actual landscape design, a formal proposal will be compiled. The proposal will include an exact plant and materials list, along with the price to complete the job. Many times proposals are broken down into installation or project phases. One set of alterations of the landscape design and proposal can be made at no additional charge. Once a proposal is signed, and a deposit received, your project will be placed on our installation schedule.

landscape installation::

A great design is only as good as its installation. There are several factors that result in a quality landscape installation.

SITE PREPARATION: A great landscape begins with preparation of the planting beds. After site analysis, the area (s) to be planted will be prepped for installation.  Clean-up and removal are included.

QUALITY PLANT MATERIALS: Horticare Landscaping works with nurseries and suppliers of choice plant materials. Only plants that grow well in USDA hardiness Zones 6-7 are recommended. All trees and shrubs are guaranteed for one year as long as an irrigation system is in place

PROPER INSTALLATION: With degreed horticulturists on staff, Horticare Landscaping has both the education and training to plant trees and shrubs the correct way. We take the extra time to remove metal baskets and nylon string from trees to prevent future root damage. Special attention is given to preventing soil compaction during the planting process.

follow-up::

You are now the owner of a beautiful landscape, and our relationship has just begun. Once the landscape project is complete, a final meeting with our landscape consultant and designer will be scheduled to review the project with you.

WARRANTY: Horticare Landscaping warranties all trees and shrubs for a period of one year as long as an irrigation system is installed.

 Time to Landscape

After moving into a new home surrounded by bare dirt, it may be a daunting task to do much more than visualize your dream landscaping. Take heart though; the end results of proper landscape design will be well worth the effort.

Too much sun, wind, lack of view or too much view of a neighboring property are all problems that effective landscape design can help you overcome. Even better, attractive landscaping can add as much as 17% to the value of your property; a $300,000 home could gain $50,000 when you go to sell it.

Landscaping consists both of hardscapes, the paved and permanent elements, and greenscapes, plants, trees and shrubs. Landscape themes such as Natural, English, Formal, Japanese, and Modern identify not only your property but also your tastes and preferences. Color, form, line, scale, and texture are primary landscape design elements.

 Theme and Purpose

Although landscape design serves two goals, making your property more accessible and more physically or visually appealing, when you go to create the perfect landscape plan you should think about what you really want. Your property is finite, so your landscape design should fit your needs, not someone else’s. Avoid the temptation to install something just because a neighbor may have it. Each landscaping element should have a specific purpose.

Talk with us about your priorities, hobbies, health concerns, preferences, and free time we can customize a landscape master plan that takes these into account.

Consider where you’ll be in five to ten years; prestige elements may serve your long-term goals, but if you plan to retire elsewhere, create a landscape plan that maximizes resale appeal while minimizing cost.

Talk with your spouse and family members about what they want most; a play-yard, hot tub and lap pool are popular landscape elements, but you and your family may be tennis or volleyball fans. Pick amenities you already enjoy or would really use. If you provide day care, safety, accessibility, and seating around play areas might be your first priorities. If elderly family members may be moving in or spending extended stays, you will want to include plans to make what you do accessible for them as well.

Remember that because outdoor environments change seasonally you want to consider landscape elements that can serve you throughout the year.

 Landscape Maintenance

Consider the time and energy you personally want to devote to your landscaping and select plants and themes that fit. Are you a rose grower or hands-on gardener? Then leave "blank" space with proper drainage and irrigation for flowers and food crops you will enjoy growing. A trellis or arbor for instance might do double-duty as a blackberry support; a barbecue area could be effectively set off with raised planters you might use for growing lettuce and tomatoes.

If, on the other hand, you consider landscaping on the same level as elephants—enjoyable to view but an upkeep nightmare—consider low maintenance elements that might include automated irrigation, patios, rock gardens, ornamental trees and shrubs, and no-mow ground cover plants.

Don't want to maintain it yourself?  We provide either basic or full service maintenance contract.  Your contract price can include just the basics or it can easily become full service.  Full service contracts include services such as chemical applications, mulch, and seasonal color.  Just let us know what you prefer and we will get it done for you!
